Wings lose Almquist to the KHL

The Detroit Red Wings have lost defenseman Adam Almquist to the KHL.

According to a Russian website Almquist, 23, has signed a two-year deal with Severestal Cherepovets.

The club website also confirmed the deal.

Almquist, who is a restricted free agent, leaving did not come as a shock to the Wings after he no longer wanted to play in the AHL.

Almquist’s decision was also aided by his falling deeper down on the blue line depth chart including Xavier Ouellet, Ryan Sproul and Alexey Marchenko.

Almquist, who was the seventh round pick in the 2009 draft, played in two games with the Wings and scored a goal.

He had four goals and 49 assists in 73 games with Grand Rapids this past season.

  1. 4 Goals – 49 Assists in 73 Games*
Pretty sure if he had 24 and 49 assists, he wouldn’t be in the AHL
