ANN ARBOR — Darren Helm was a late scratch to the lineup suffering from a sore groin according to Wings general manager Ken Holland.
Helm, who did take the pre-game skate, is day-to-day according to Holland.
His absence forced Wings coach Mike Babcock to split up Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk off the top line.
It’s the 26th game Helm has missed due to injury this season.
Helm, who had just returned from a left shoulder injury, had been hot offensively with seven goals and four assists in 16 games.
Various injuries over the last two seasons have sidelined Helm. When he returned to the lineup on Nov. 2 he had played just two games over the last 19 months.
He began the season with a back problem and then his groin became an issue.
Patrick Eaves left the game in the first period after being crosschecked in the neck by Joffrey Lupul, who was been suspended before, and never returned.
Holland said that he had no further updates on Eaves after the game and that he would know more Thursday. It did add it appeared that nothing was broken.
