Wings general manager Ken Holland said via text that defenseman Niklas Kronwall is “day-to-day” with a mild concussion.
Kronwall had to be taken off on a stretcher after being hit from behind by Colorado’s Cody McLeod in the first period of the Wings’ 4-2 win over the Avalanche.
“Never fun to see that happen, especially coming in with all that gear,” Johan Franzen said after the game. “I guess you’ve got to be really cautious. He didn’t want to get off the ice, but that’s just him.”
Kronwall also suffered cuts on the right side of his face after his head was slammed into the glass just 2:13 into the first period.
“I was there when they rolled him off,” Franzen said. “He seemed fine. He didn’t want to get carried out.”
Kronwall did fly with the team to Phoenix, where the Wings will face the Coyotes Saturday night.
McLeod was assessed a five-minor boarding penalty and game misconduct.
He has an in-person disciplinary hearing with the league on Tuesday.
