DETROIT — The Wings are still searching for their first power play goal on the road this season.
“It’s well documented our power play’s clipping along at like 14 percent at home,” Wings coach Mike Babcock said. “It’s (ranked) ninth at home and it’s zero on the road. We haven’t scored a power play goal on the road. We need to get there. We need it for two reasons. One, obviously we need the goals but two, when your offensive people are scoring on the power play, it puffs them up and they’re that much better all around. Guys who score want to score. We have to put our work as a coaching staff and as a group of players into being effective on the power play.”
The Wings are 0-for-36 with the man advantage on the road.
“With our skill, the five guys that we can put out there it’s kind of mind boggling how we haven’t (scored any goals),” Wings goalie Jimmy Howard said. “But we really can’t think about it. We just have to go out there and pound pucks on net and hopefully one goes in off the shin pads.”
