DETROIT – Wings goalie Jonas Gustavsson continues to have issues with his groin.
On Sunday morning, Detroit had to recall Tomas McCollum to backup starter Jimmy Howard for tonight’s game against the Vancouver Canucks.
“Howard’s playing,” Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “Gus has a tender groin and we don’t want to take any risks.”
Holland said they were thinking about starting Gustavsson against the Canucks after Howard played Saturday night against the Nashville Predators.
Howard stopped all 33 shots he faced against the Predators.
“Howard feels good and he’s comfortable going in,” Holland said. “We think Gus will be fine, but you never know.”
The Wings leave for Los Angeles Monday night where they will face the Kings on Wednesday and San Jose the next night before returning home to host the Chicago Blackhawks next Sunday.
