A former Red Wing will be getting another shot at returning to Hockeytown.
Mike Knuble, who has 274 goals and 266 assists in 1,040 NHL games over 16 seasons, will be a training camp invitee when things are set to open up at Compuware Arena Sunday afternoon.
Knuble, 40, played last season with the Washington Capitals. He has also played with the New York Rangers, Boston and Philadelphia.
He had six goals and 12 assists in 72 games for the Capitals last season.
The Wings are deep at forward with 14 healthy ones entering camp.
Patrick Eaves has yet to be cleared from a concussion and could begin the season on injured reserve.
Knuble, who played four years at the University of Michigan, was raised in East Kentwood and was drafted by the Wings in the fourth round of the 1991 draft.
