TROY — A few quick things from Troy.
Carlo Colaiacovo was in town for the first time and said, “I want to make one thing clear, obviously the big hole is Nick Lidstrom not being and I need to let everyone know I’m not coming in here to be Nick Lidstrom, no one can come in here and replace Nick Lidstrom. He was one of the best players to every play this game. If there’s one thing I can bring to this team is a compliment of what they already have.
“A guy that can move the puck, play the power play, play in all types of situations,” he continued. “I’m pretty familiar with a lot of the guys on defense here. I’m pretty familiar with a lot of them and they can all pretty much do the same things that I do. If I can come and fit in and even help our young guys and be a good compliment in all situations because at the end of the day we just want to put the puck in our forward’s hands. They’ve got all the skill and are world class players. That’s what I’m ultimately going to try and do.”
The Wings will take physicals on Saturday and open training camp Sunday at Compuware with two sessions. They will stay at Compuware through Wednesday before going to Joe Louis Arena for Thursday and Friday.
They open the season a week from Saturday in St. Louis.
Their home opener is Jan. 22 against the Dallas Stars.
