DETROIT — There has yet to be any progress made on Justin Abdelkader’s new deal. He’s the other restricted free agent the Wings have, but he didn’t file for salary arbitration.
“We made an offer two and a half weeks ago,” Wings general manager Ken Holland said. “I’m not worried. We’ll get it done.”
The Wings would like to get Abdelkader to sign a four-year deal at just under $2 million a season.
He earned $825,000 last season.
— Holland has yet to talk to Tomas Holmstrom regarding his future with the team.
“I’ve got to call Homer,” Holland said. “I haven’t gotten any time set up but I certainly owe him a call.”
On July 1, Detroit added Mikael Samuelsson, Jordin Tootoo and Damien Brunner up front.
— The Wings continue to wait on word from unrestricted free agent Shane Doan, but it’s believed they’re on a short list of teams he would think of signing with if he doesn’t return to Phoenix.
Doan, who made $4.5 million last season, has played his entire career for the organization, which moved from Winnipeg after the 1995-96 season.
