DETROIT — Just before boarding a plane to go to the All-Star Game in Kansas City, Shane Doan’s agent, Terry Bross, confirmed that he has been contacted regarding his client by the Detroit Red Wings.
And there is interest in Doan possibly coming to Detroit as well.
“Yes to both,” Bross said when asked if the Wings have contacted him and whether Doan has Detroit on a list of possible teams to play for next season.
Bross couldn’t talk any further as he was just about to board the plane.
Much of Doan’s decision will be based on whether the Coyotes remain in Phoenix.
Doan said he would wait until today before he started exploring other options other than Phoenix.
After losing out on the bidding for Zach Parise, Doan could be the Wings’ Plan B upfront. He has scored at least 20 goals in 11 of the last 12 seasons and has scored 26 goals or more seven times in his career.
In 1,198 career games, Doan has 318 goals and 470 assists.
Doan has played his entire career for the organization, which moved from Winnipeg after the 1995-96 season.
