Eaves out this weekend

DETROIT — Patrick Eaves (foot) won’t play in the final three preseason games for the Wings.

Wings general manager Ken Holland said he hopes Eaves will resume skating next week and be ready for the season opener against the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 8.

“If he’s not ready for opening night, he’ll be real close,” Holland said. “The foot is a little swollen but nothing significant.”

Defenseman Derek Meech (concussion) is scheduled to see a specialist. He hopes to be cleared to state Friday or Saturday.

Draper skates

DETROIT — Kris Draper skated on his own for about 10 minutes at Joe Louis Arena, in sweat pants.

“Gingerly, I guess you can say,” Draper said about how he skated.

Trainer Piet Van Zant monitored Draper’s time on the ice.

“I didn’t push it, but it felt good just to put the skates on,” Draper said. “Mentally it felt good. It’s definitely going in the right direction.”

Wings coach Mike Babcock has already ruled Draper out for the season opener on Oct. 8 against the Anaheim Ducks.
