Fox Sports Detroit lets Larry Murphy go

DETROIT – The answer to where Larry Murphy been on the Detroit Red Wings broadcasts has finally been given.

Murphy was let go by the station.

“We wanted our primary team of Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels to call the remaining games as the Red Wings make a push for the playoffs,” read a statement released by the network. “We thought it was only fair to let Larry know as soon as possible that he would not be scheduled for any more assignments. We thank Larry for his contributions to our telecasts over the years and we wish him well.”

Murphy told M-Live.com on Friday that he was let go on March 12.

Murphy also told M-Live.com that he was told low ratings were the reason for his release and he was particularly puzzled by the timing of the decision.

  1. So, the fact that the NHL/NHLPA not being able to get around their greed leaves us the fans again short changed.
I love Kenny/Mickey, but Murphy was just as important to the broadcasts.

  2. Shame on you FOX sports. Murphy adds a lot of passion to the broadcast. Much better than Darren Elliott. That right there shows it MUST NOT be ratings after all. WE WILL MISS YOU MURPH!

  3. Thank you, I’ve been hunting for information about this subject for ages and yours is the best I have found so far.
