TROY – While the next captain for the Wings hasn’t been named yet, all signs point to Henrik Zetterberg adding the “C” to his jersey for the upcoming season, when and if there is one.
“If that were the case, yes, absolutely,” Zetterberg said when asked if he’d like to be named captain. “We’ll see here what happens the next few weeks. If they will ask, I will be honored.”
When Niklas Lidstrom retired this offseason, Wings general manager Ken Holland said the next captain would come from one of last season’s alternate captains – Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall or Pavel Datsyuk.
“It’s something that you always hope you’d have a chance to do in your career, especially with a team like this in a city like this with the past and the ownership and the history we have,” Zetterberg said. “It would be a true honor.”
Couldn’t think of anyone better to wear that ‘C’! He will hold this team together staying strong, confident, and humble. He has always givin great input in post game interviews. Speaks good English- and has also stayed loyal only playing with our orginazation. I have a lot of faith with Hank being our captian. Let’s hope we have a season to see him wear that ‘c’ at the big house for the winter classic and on home ice at the joe! Go wings!!
