Cross two defensemen off Wings’ search for help along the blue line

DETROIT – Defensemen Doug Janik and Garnet Exelby have both left the Wings’ organization.

Janik signed a one-year contract with German team Adler Mannheim, which was announced on the team’s website.

Janik spent three seasons in the organization, playing 29 games in Detroit.

He had 10 goals and 23 assists in 67 games in Grand Rapids last season.

Exelby signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Boston Bruins. His deal with worth $600,000 if he plays for the Bruins and $130,000 in the AHL.

Exelby, 30, spent all last season with the Griffins, where he was the team captain.

He had seven goals and 14 assists in 75 games last season. He also amassed 177 penalty minutes.
