Conklin clears waivers

Ty Conklin cleared re-entry waivers and will start tonight against the New York Rangers tonight according to Wings general manager Ken Holland.

Conklin seems have to gotten his game back in his time in Grand Rapids, going 8-4-0, with a 2.40 goals-against average and .915 save percentage.

With the Wings he was 3-5-0, with a 3.40 goals-against average and .878 save percentage.

Jordan Pearce will be the backup.

Jimmy Howard had an MRI Tuesday on his groin and no damage was revealed. He hopes to be ready to play Saturday against Carolina at Joe Louis Arena.

“I’m feeling better,” Howard said. “I don’t know how I did it. It just came on in the third period, just like the last time and it’s the same spot. This is just being cautious rather than trying to push it. One game all the sudden could be 10 if I really injure it.”

Howard said he felt he could have backed up tonight if needed.

“Hopefully I can get on the ice Friday,” Howard said. “I think (Saturday) hopefully is a realistic goal. I want to be out there. I don’t enjoy sitting out watching games, the emotions get too involved.”
