DETROIT — Nicklas Lidstrom will be out at least the next two games — Friday (Minnesota) and Sunday (Chicago) — with a bad bone bruise on his ankle according to Wings general manager Ken Holland.
“Doctors say he’s out for the weekend and he’ll be re-evaluated on Monday,” Holland said.
Lidstrom took a puck off his ankle on Saturday and it swelled up. X-rays showed no break.
“The puck came hard around and kind of skipped and hit me right in the ankle,” Lidstrom said earlier this week. “I hope the swelling goes down so I can put my skate on, that’s been the problem getting the skate on and tying my skate.”
The injury occurred in the second period and didn’t allow him to untie his skates in the locker room before the third.
“I know that I couldn’t do it because it would have swollen up right away,” Lidstrom said. “So I kept it on and waited until after the game and then it got real sore.”
He has not skated since Saturday.
