The Detroit Red Wings traded their 24th pick in the first round to the Ottawa Senators in return for the 35th and 48th picks in the second round.
Detroit also has pick No. 55 in the second round.
It’s the third time in the last six seasons the Wings have traded out of the first round to get additional picks in the second round.
The trade leads to speculation that the Wings may have been targeting Tyler Biggs, who was taken by the Toronto Maple Leafs at No. 22. The Leafs made a trade with Anaheim to move up to the slot.
Detroit has nine picks over the final six rounds of the drat which will take place Saturday — three in the second round, two in the fifth round and one in every other round.
