NHL releases Wings schedule

DETROIT – The NHL released the 2011-12 schedule and the Wings open the season at home against former assistant coach Paul MacLean on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.

The very next night Detroit is at Colorado.

The Vancouver Canucks, who lost in the Stanley Cup finals to the Boston Bruins in seven games, are the Wings’ next home game on Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Steve Yzmeran and his Tampa Bay Lightning visit Joe Louis Arena on Nov. 30.

The Wings play their traditional New Year’s Eve game against the the St. Louis Blues.

Buffalo, Philadelphia and Washington are the three Eastern Conference teams that play the Wings home and away.

Winnipeg, which moved from Atlanta in the offseason, visits Detroit on Dec. 10.
