DETROIT — Henrik Zetterberg confirmed he’s not playing in Game 1 of the Wings’ opening playoff series Wednesday night against the Phoenix Coyotes.
As far as Game 2, that’s also uncertain.
“It’s tough to say,” Zetterberg said when asked if he expects to return in the first round. “(We’ve) just got to see how it reacts.”
Zetterberg has yet to skate since getting injured last Wednesday on a hit by Carolina’s Bryan Allen.
Zetterberg did an off-ice workout, while wearing a brace on his left knee.
“He’s not playing,” Wings coach Mike Babcock said about Zetterberg’s status for Game 1. “The good thing about it is we’ve got a couple days before the next game So he’ll continue to be day-to-day until he’s back.”
Game 2 isn’t until Saturday afternoon at Joe Louis Arena.
“It felt really funny when it happened,” Zetterberg said of the injury. “We’re working on it. We’re (making) progress. Hopefully, it will be shorter than what we thought.”
Zetterberg said he had a similar injury before.
“It wasn’t as serious,” Zetterberg said. “I didn’t miss that much time.”
